Facelift surgery is a comprehensive and combined surgery against the slouching on skin as a result of old age, sagging in fat tissues, volume loss related to fat resorption, reveal of curves between nose and lips, having “turkey neck” in neck area and general sagging. In addition, skin excess in upper eyelids and under eye bags on lower eyelids are operated.

Although facelift surgery is preferred above 40 years of age, more natural and effective results are obtained in earlier ages using the same technique (deep plane, composite plane facelift).

It is completed under general anaesthesia. Before 3 weeks of surgery, cigarette and aspirin usage should be given up. Furthermore, anticoagulants should not be used within 1 week before surgery. After the surgery, there should be no change in expressions and permanent oedema on patients. The postsurgical pain is generally mild and can be taken under control easily with painkillers. For 1 to 2 days, there may be a need for a drain as to prevent blood from accumulating in the neck area. Face is covered with bandage wholly and after 1 day, a medical dressing is applied, and the bandage is removed. Time for hospitalisation is 1 day.

The swellings and purpleness on face usually vanish substantially after 1 week. In some cases, this situation may last for 15-20 days. The sutures on face are divided in two: some of them dissolve by themselves, some of them are required to be removed after 6-7 days. The incisions for the surgery are done in hairy skin, behind ears and on curves of skin; hence, they cannot be detected.

It is known that the effect of facelift surgery continues for 10-15 years. Because the aging is still ongoing, the effects which would be apparent on the face related to aging may be mitigated by a repeated surgery.
