Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
In upper eyelid blepharoplasty, sagging excess skin is removed together with excess fat tissue. The purpose is to give a nice visual appearance cosmetically to the person without damaging the function of eyelids. Pre-surgically, detailed eye examination is done and if there is accompanying lid or eyebrow sagging, they are detected and a treatment plan is created for the same session.
Pre-operatively, due to the increase in the bleeding risk, it is recommended that patients stop using anticoagulants and multivitamin supplements 7-10 days before the operation, if there is no problem for the health of the patient.
Upper eyelid surgery is executed in local anaesthesia, although patients may choose or need heavy sedation or general anaesthesia. Before the surgery, the amount of fat deposit which is to be removed is calculated. Necessary markings are done carefully for the eyelids as not to left them open. Accompanying lid and eyebrow problems may be treated in the same session. The sutures in surgery and after the surgery are done in the natural curvature of lids, so there should be no expectation of having a scar after the operation.
After the surgery, there is no need to cover the eyes or hospitalisation. Especially in the first 48 hours, local ice application may help in decreasing oedema. Eye drops and ointments are applied locally. Patients can resume their normal lives in 4-5 days, and they can start their work after approximately 10 days. Sutures are removed in 7-10 days. As oedema decreases in 10 days, the effect of surgical operation is most apparent in 1,5-2 months.
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Our lower eyelid is a complex structure, covering the lower 1/3 fraction of eye orb, continuing to the cheeks. Because it has roles in conducting tears to lacrimal duct and its management, it is essential that there should be no sagging or not closing properly after the operation in lower eyelid. Therefore, it is very important for this operation to be done by experienced surgeons.
Cosmetic lower eyelid surgery can be utilised for various reasons such as age, laxation in the lower eyelid tissue and skin through environmental factors and gravity, sagging, wryness and bagginess.
Pre-operatively, due to the increase in the bleeding risk, it is recommended that patients stop using anticoagulants and multivitamin supplements 7-10 days before the operation, if there is no problem for the health of the patient. The detection of skin and fat tissue to be operated on is done and necessary markings are set. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty can be executed under local or general anaesthesia. For the patients who do not need to have skin removed, there is no incision done and possible postsurgical complication risk is decreased.
For the patients for whom there Is a need for skin removing, an intervention can be done by an incision way under the eyelash line. The goal is to mitigate the cosmetic problems and having an aesthetical appearance via skin removing in line with the requirements, tightening the lid, fat removing or fat transfer. If necessary, cheek and midface tissues are raised up in order to have a younger appearance in the same session. Furthermore, all four eyelids can be operated upon in one session.
The operations which are done through the inner side of eye do not need to have sutures removed, but the operations on skin have the need for remove of skins after 7-10 days. As oedema decreases in 10 days, the effect of surgical operation is most apparent in 1,5-2 months.
