Botox is a brand of a medicine whose active substance is botulinum toxin. This toxin is derived from a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum in a laboratory environment, and it is allowed to be used for cosmetic purposes by FDA (U.S Food and Drug Administration) in 1981, and for aesthetic purposes in 1989. Today, it is used frequently for these niches.
Mechanism of action for this toxin is stopping nerve conduction temporarily by preventing mediators secreted from nerve endings. Facial expressions such as smiling, getting angry, being surprised and squinting affect the skin in years with dynamic lines, turning into permanent wrinkles on face.
